    Through Dialogue and Interaction: Join Baruch Connects Events for October 2024

    Dear Baruch Community,

    Earlier this semester, I announced Baruch Connects, an initiative that embodies Baruch College’s core values of collaboration and connection and our overarching commitment to care and respect. A key part of this initiative is the Respectful Dialogue Series—an ongoing opportunity for open, respectful conversations throughout the academic year. We are also expanding our intercultural celebrations, including the recognition of new holidays on the CUNY calendar. We will honor and celebrate Diwali on Thursday, Oct. 31.

    We encourage you to participate in any or all of this month’s activities:

    Global Fall Festival
    Tuesday, Oct. 22
    12 noon–2:30 pm
    Clivner=Field Plaza

    Come celebrate the global diversity of Baruch’s campus community with fun activities and food from around the world.

    World Café: What Matters Now?
    Wednesday, Oct. 23
    12 noon–2 pm
    Newman Vertical Campus, Multipurpose Room, Room 1-107
    Hosted by the Marxe School as part of the Respectful Dialogue Series

    With the upcoming election, this will be Baruch’s first-ever World Café, a structured conversational process that encourages knowledge sharing. Participants will discuss timely topics in small groups, café style. All students, staff, and faculty are welcome.

    Lunch will be served; RSVP here.

    Forum: The Presidency as an Institution
    Thursday, Oct. 24
    12:30–2 pm
    Newman Vertical Campus, Room 14-250
    Facilitated by Natale Cipollina

    Heading into a presidential election, it’s important to educate ourselves not just on the candidates but on the institution of the presidency. What powers does the President hold, and how has the office evolved? Join Professor Cipollina as he delves into these critical questions and helps us all become better-informed voters.

    Light refreshments will be served; RSVP here.

    Keynote Address: Dialogue as a Stepping Stone for Social Change
    Thursday, Oct. 24
    4:30–6 pm
    Newman Vertical Campus, Engelman Recital Hall
    Speaker: Kazu Haga

    We live in a world full of violence and division, where change is necessary. But how do we advocate for justice while healing relationships and building communities? Join Kazu Haga, a renowned trainer in nonviolence and restorative justice, as he explores the role of dialogue in creating social change.

    A reception with light refreshments will follow the keynote address; RSVP here.

    Diwali Celebration
    Thursday, Oct. 31
    12:30–2:30 pm
    Clivner=Field Plaza
    Sponsored by the Indian Student Association

    Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated across Hindu, Jain, Sikh, and Buddhist traditions. Join us for fun, food, and festivities as we mark this important cultural celebration.

    We hope you’ll take part in these important events that help the College continue to cultivate a campus culture of care, respect, and community. Please feel free to send any questions to BaruchConnects@baruch.cuny.edu.

    Sincerely,

    S. David Wu
    President, Baruch College
