Reaffirming Baruch’s Commitment to Respect and Inclusivity
To the Baruch Community,
I am saddened to report that earlier this week a group of CUNY students, including those from the Baruch community, were harassed by protesters at a Hillel-sponsored dinner. The incident took place outside a midtown restaurant shortly after a protest on the plaza outside Baruch College.
Baruch College unequivocally condemns this behavior. This incident went far beyond the bounds of peaceful protest. It was about intimidation and was filled with hateful rhetoric that directly contradicts our core values of care, respect, and inclusivity. Such actions have no place in our community and will not be tolerated.
The Office of Legal Affairs, Labor Relations, and Compliance, in collaboration with the Baruch Department of Public Safety and the Office of the Dean of Students, is conducting a full investigation of this incident and will pursue disciplinary action, as appropriate, in accordance with the Baruch College Code of Student Conduct and Henderson Rules of Public Order.
The safety and well-being of Baruch students, faculty, and staff remain our top priority. We have implemented additional security measures on campus this semester and will continue to monitor events, activities, and actions to ensure that classes and campus operations are not disrupted.
If you have safety concerns or require assistance, please contact Campus Security at public.safety@baruch.cuny.edu or 646-660-6000. For mental health support services, students should reach out to the Baruch Counseling Center; faculty and staff should contact the College’s employee assistance program, CCA@YourService.
Thank you for your commitment to fostering a community of respect and inclusion for all.
Sincerely,
S. David Wu
President, Baruch College
