Network Outage Updates – and Many Thanks

    To the Baruch Community,

During the evening hours on Sunday, December 15, Baruch College experienced a network outage that has been both disruptive and challenging. Our BCTC colleagues took immediate action—working tirelessly around the clock with support from industry experts and the CUNY Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS)—to resolve the issue. Thanks to the security enhancements implemented after last year’s cyber incident, we are in a much stronger position for recovery, and progress toward restoring all systems continues.

As of yesterday, BCTC has restored Wi-Fi for most users, and many of the services that were interrupted are now available. There will be a campus-wide password reset process shared as soon as possible; the timeline and help options will be clearly communicated.

I recognize the significant burden and inconvenience this outage has caused, especially during the critical final exam period. We are making every effort to ensure our students are able to complete their exams in a timely manner, and faculty grading deadlines have been extended. Your resilience during this time is deeply appreciated, and I want to thank you for your perseverance and adaptability.

Members of my senior leadership team have been providing daily updates to the campus community as new information becomes available and will continue to do so until the recovery process is complete. The situation is fluid, which means updates may contain information that supersede earlier messages as systems are brought back online. Please be sure to read all communications to stay up to date. Your patience and flexibility as we work through this challenge mean a great deal.

In the days ahead, I ask for your utmost courtesy and patience when interacting with BCTC staff. They have made tremendous efforts to restore our systems and need your continued support and cooperation. The security precautions we take together will further minimize damage and help build a more resilient and secure IT environment for the future.

Thank you for your understanding, collaboration, and dedication to the Baruch community.

    Sincerely,

    S. David Wu
    President, Baruch College
