Help Shape Baruch’s Financial Future: Join the Activity-Based Budget Kickoff Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3
Dear Colleagues,
I hope everyone has had a rejuvenating summer. Few moments in the College calendar are as exciting and hopeful as the start of a new academic year. I am mindful of Baruch College’s vital mission and feel a renewed sense of purpose as we continue on our journey to achieve the goals laid out in our Strategic Plan 2023–2028.
One of the key initiatives of our plan is to enhance transparency and deepen the community’s understanding of our budget and the budgeting process. With the announcement of the FY 2025 New York State Budget and our financial plan projecting a stable future, we are now ideally positioned to advance this key initiative.
In that spirit of innovation, collaboration, and excellence, I announced a few months ago our plan to adopt an Activity-Based Budgeting (ABB) model for the College. As you may recall, ABB, also known as Incentive-Based Budgeting, is a leading practice in higher education that enhances transparency, aligns financial incentives with institutional goals, and encourages innovation. By tracking and allocating resources more accurately, this approach promotes data-informed decisions and responsiveness to changing demands. It also supports strategic resource allocation, operational effectiveness, and long-term fiscal sustainability.

Please join me and members of the Cabinet for the Activity-Based Budget Kickoff Meeting. At this discussion, led by David Vuletich, PhD, MBA, Managing Director in EAB’s Research Advisory Services, you will learn about the Activity-Based Budget model and how it helps colleges and universities align with strategic goals.
Tuesday, September 3
12:30–2 pm
Newman Vertical Campus (NVC)
Simon Conference Room 14-220
Lunch will be served.
RSVP to attend in person here.
Remote access will be available for those not able to attend in person. Register here.
This is the ideal time to implement this key initiative. So many colleges are facing financial difficulties because they have not planned to meet the future. ABB will help Baruch realize our vision as a national model for access and excellence and create life-changing experiences for our students, faculty, and staff.
I hope to see you on September 3.
Sincerely,
S. David Wu
President, Baruch College
