Ensuring a Safe and Respectful Campus Environment During Today’s Rally
To the Baruch Community,
We are aware of a rally planned for today, June 5, at around 5 pm at the 25th Street Plaza against Hillel—one of our student organizations that serves our Jewish student community.
We support the right of all individuals and groups to express their views peacefully and respectfully, but we condemn the tenor of this rally because it is counter to Baruch’s value of mutual respect, essential to learning and working in a diverse community like ours.
The plaza where this event is planned is public property, not on the grounds of the Baruch campus. NYPD and members of the Baruch Public Safety team will be on-site to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff.
Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of every member of our community, so we are taking the following steps:
- Increased Security Presence: We will have an enhanced presence of campus security officers and NYPD support to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff and to prevent any disruptions or conflicts.
- Support for Hillel: We are in close communication with Hillel and other relevant organizations to provide support and ensure their safety during this time.
- Monitoring and Coordination: We are actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with local law enforcement to ensure that the protest remains peaceful and that the rights of all individuals are respected.
- Respect and Tolerance: We encourage all individuals to engage in respectful dialogue and to be mindful of the diverse perspectives within our community. Harassment or violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
If you have any safety concerns or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact campus security at public.safety@baruch.cuny.edu or 646-660-6000. For mental health support services, students should reach out to the Baruch Counseling Center; faculty and staff should contact the College’s employee assistance program, CCA@YourService.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to maintain a safe and respectful campus environment.
Sincerely,
S. David Wu
President, Baruch College
