    Records Retention

The CUNY Records Retention and Disposition Schedule indicates the minimum length of time that college and University officials must retain their records before the records may be disposed of legally. All CUNY records must be retained in accordance with the retention periods and guidelines specified in the CUNY Records Retention and Disposition Schedule and in any related policies, procedures, guidelines, or directives that CUNY has issued or may issue in the future.

The purposes of the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule are to:

    • Ensure that records are retained as long as needed for administrative, legal, and fiscal purposes
    • Ensure that state and federal records retention requirements are met
    • Ensure that records with enduring historical and other research value are identified and retained permanently
    • Encourage and facilitate the systematic disposal of unneeded records

All inquiries about records management should be referred to Sabina Pringle, sabina.pringle@baruch.cuny.edu.
